Welcome to My Go 2 Pro Blog by Scott Johnson. My goal for this blog is to give you the knowledge to prepare your home, appliances, and equipment for the winter. A little extra care during the fall will keep your investments in working order and maintain property value.
As you look at the trees turning colors, it is a good time to look up and start at the top of your house to check the roof. Are the shingles in good shape? Do the vents/chimney’s have a good seal near the shingles? Are the eaves and gutters in good condition, secure, clear of debris and leaves? This area of your house is the first defense to the winter ahead. Issues in this area of your home will only cause ice build up and water damage that could lead to major expenses.
As you work your way down the outside of your home make sure your siding is in good condition, windows and other seams have a good seal with caulk, and gutter downspouts are secured and clear. Also make sure any wood that is exposed has a good stain or paint application which will protect it from the elements.
Once your have made it to the ground level, it is a good time to disconnect your hoses, drain any excess water, store them, and shut the outside water off at the interior shut off valve. Once the water is turned off inside, open the outside water faucet, let drain of excessive water, and leave faucet in the on position.
Check to make sure your screen doors and doors work properly and have a good seal when they close.
A little hint for the A/C unit outside, make it last by giving it a cover for the winter. Keeping it out of the elements of snow and not allowing snow to work its way inside will keep your AC unit working properly for many years.
As you take notice of the beautiful fall-color leaves blowing in your yard, here are some other things to be aware of: Is your deck in need of stain or paint? Have you covered your grill and patio furniture?
Please know that if you do not have the time, knowledge, or experience to take care of the things mentioned above, we at My Go 2 Pro are willing to offer our services. We understand that a little prep before winter, will save you money from wear and tear caused by the cold, snowy, winter season. Spring will come and let it bring the warmth of the sun, the growth of the flowers, and a smile to your face because you have no repairs due to proper pre-winter prep work.
